We are currently developing a series of nationally recognised music awards for schools and young people. Our 2022–26 Strategy outlines our plans create a scheme where schools can become We Make Music Schools, in a similar way to Eco Schools or Reading Schools.
We are in the process of developing the criteria for schools to achieve the award. Awards will be given in a number of ways – through participation, excellence, and community engagement. Different levels – Gold, Silver, Bronze, will allow for progression as schools develop their programmes.
We Make Music Schools will be an important point in the journey to realise the potential achievement of Scotland’s children and young people.
We will share more information via our mailing list and social media as plans develop.

We Make Music Digital Awards
In 2022, we partnered with Sonappa to run the pilot We Make Music Digital Awards.
This nationally recognised award for young people in Scotland was supported by the Sonappa resources and free CPDL opportunities for teachers. All participating children received a We Make Music certificate, and schools received a We Make Music Schools Plaque.
We Make Music Digital has been achieved by 15 schools in Scotland and by 500+ young people by using Sonappa.
