Our first annual We Make Music Scotland National Education Conference took place on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 September 2025 in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow.

The two-day event brought together almost 250 delegates from across the country and was designed for instrumental teachers, freelance musicians and community music practitioners.  The conference showcased how music shapes minds and communities through an engaging programme of hands-on workshops, inspiring keynote speakers, presentations, youth performances and partner trade stalls.

Key note speakers were John Wallace CBE, Dame Evelyn Glennie and Nicola Benedetti CBE who all spoke passionately about music accessibility and the transformative power of music.

Workshops were led by a wide and varied range of industry professionals and offered a rich learning experience for delegates.  A Wellbeing in Practice workshop by osteopath Andrew Patterson guided delegates through a practical workshop to support their own health and the wellbeing of the young people they teach.

Feedback from the conference has been really positive:

“Fantastic! Really empowering and interesting and I was so pleased to see so many sessions focused on ASN inclusion and non-formal/informal teaching methods.”

It was very good, lots of different workshop choices and so good to have a chance to network and feel part of the bigger picture of music education.”

We anticipate next year’s conference will be event bigger and hope to have the date confirmed soon – watch this space!
