In June 2020, as the country was adjusting to life in lockdown, we gathered online for Make Music Day to get people playing music together.
We aimed to get a thousand people playing and singing along to the classic Beatles song Hey Jude, in an attempt to form a massive online band. Hundreds of people across Scotland sent in audio and video recordings and hundreds more gathered together online to create this Symphony of a Thousand, conducted by Sir James MacMillan.
The project was put together by Tinderbox Collective and Music Education Partnership Group in support of music education in Scotland.
During lockdown, we also brought people together online to share their performances of Somewhere Over the Rainbow (April 2020) and their Doorstep Samba (June 2020, in partnership with Beat Buddies Music).
