Beginner Group String Teaching Principles and Practice

About the Speakers

Joelle Broad

Joëlle is the Curriculum Specialist for Beginner to Elementary Strings in Sistema Scotland with responsibilities across all the centres and works from the Raploch Centre.

Violinist Joëlle Broad (Fenna) studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where she gained her Honours degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Performance.

Her freelance career as a Violinist has included chamber music performances on Radio 3 and several concerto performances with orchestras, amongst other chamber and orchestral work. She is the Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s current Education Fellow and Coach/lecturer for the Benedetti Foundation.

Rachel Cooper

Since graduating from her Masters at the Royal College of Music, Rachel has built up a varied portfolio of teaching, performing, research and outreach projects.

Rachel is a trained Suzuki Violin teacher working as a Violin/Viola and Chamber Music Coach at Guildhall School of Music and Drama Junior Department, Violin teacher for London Music Masters, Head of Strings at a large free school in Berkshire, and a Violin Coach/lecturer for Nicola Benedetti’s new education initiative: Benedetti Foundation. In September 2020, Rachel joined the faculty at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, lecturing in Music in Education on their Undergraduate program.

David Munn

David attended the Music School of Douglas Academy in Milngavie before going onto study Music (BMus Hons) at the Universities of Glasgow and Illinois. After that, he completed a two-year postgraduate course in Cello Performance (MMus with Distinction) at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying with Robert Irvine.

David has performed with many of the Scottish professional orchestras, and with the contemporary music ensemble Red Note. He also plays piano in a ceilidh band and is part of a string trio called StringSound.

David joined the Big Noise family in Summer 2014 and became a senior musician in 2017. He is also Cello Coach/lecturer for the Benedetti Foundation.
