Spotlight On… Charanga

Over 70,000 teachers use Charanga’s online platform to help them teach music. The music education and technology company is best known for providing award-winning curricula and digital music programmes for all year groups, CPD and quality-assured teacher training that, together, boost music in schools. Charanga Scotland has active partnerships with music services across Scotland.

Primary – Charanga Musical School

Charanga’s award-winning Musical School programme includes several ready-made Schemes of Work to help educators – and non-music specialists particularly – teach Curriculum for Excellence. A customisable library of songs, creative tools, interactive teaching resources, and more are included.

For teachers who perhaps work more flexibly, Charanga’s Freestyle Library allows users to mix and match resources from the Charanga platform with their own. Educators can find and save resources linked to many other areas of music-making in their school throughout the programme.

Musical School also houses YuStudio, a user-friendly, cloud-based digital audio workstation (DAW) for schools, allowing aspiring young producers to make music online. ‘Create With YuStudio’ projects support older primary-aged children in learning how to arrange and mix compositions. Teacher Guides and video tutorials support educators at every step. A licence gives every teacher and student unlimited access to the award-winning software.

Support for remote, hybrid and blended learning is provided via Yumu, a password-protected online space where students can learn, play and develop their musicianship. You’ll also find an array of singing resources, a dedicated ASN section, and courses for popular classroom music instruments in the programme.

YuStudio, Charanga’s full-featured, cloud-based DAW, is integral to the increasingly popular Charanga Secondary programme. Together, they offer students the perfect introduction to digital multitrack recording and sequencing – with no seat limits.

You’ll find everything in one place:

  • YuStudio – a purpose-built DAW for schools.
  • Ready-made projects supporting YuStudio’s use.
  • Set and assess work online.
  • A Bonus Library of resources to enhance your curriculum.

YuStudio Project options include an upgraded version of the award-winning VIP Studio Sessions programme, exploring contemporary genres, music technology and production, and Music and the Modern World, six progressive units covering popular curriculum themes with guided listening activities.

In the Bonus Library, you’ll find everything from interactive Rockschool Method Books supporting young drummers, electric guitarists, bassists, and ukulele and piano players to bespoke projects for special needs students.

Dedicated online workspaces allow teachers to manage and securely share personalised projects, lessons, assignments and tools with their students.

Recognising that every music service is different, these partnerships vary in nature according to the needs of the music service, local teachers and students. Charanga offers its partners everything from support for music-making in local schools to deeper integrations around ASN and workforce development.
