We are working with a number of libraries, music and community organisations to develop a programme where public libraries will loan out musical instruments for people to borrow. The programme aims to increase people’s access to instruments, broaden the offering from public libraries, and help to stimulate more local music activities and opportunities.
We are currently working with OnFife (who manage Fife’s libraries), North Ayrshire Library Services, Edinburgh Libraries, Tinderbox Collective, St Andrews Music Participation (StAMP), North Ayrshire Music Service and others to pilot the scheme in three local authorities as libraries reopen after Covid.
The idea builds on a successful pilot of the Muirhouse Instrument Library in Edinburgh. This began in 2019 through a partnership between Tinderbox Collective, Muirhouse Library and North Edinburgh Arts, and has continued throughout the pandemic.
We are starting to build up our stock of musical instruments, so we can be up and running as soon as possible as libraries start reopen after Covid!
If you would like to donate an instrument to the library – please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
